Eubie Blake performed at York in 1971 as part of an event called “The Music of Black Americans,” which also celebrated the publication of York faculty member Eileen Southern’s book with the same title which came out that year. Dr. Southern left York for Harvard in 1974, where she became the first African-American woman to receive tenure (1976). Her obit is at:
